Child Labour In India : A Major Issue
Editorials News | Jan-26-2022
The happiest moment of human life is childhood, neither worry nor any responsibility. But everyone's childhood is necessarily like this. You will be conscious of the matter of kid labour. Any child who is below 14 years of age and works is below 14 years of age and works for a living is called child labour. Due to poverty, helplessness, and oppression of parents, these children keep getting trapped in this quagmire of child labour. There are 215 million children under the age of 14 around the world today. And the time of these children is not spent in school, between copy-books and friends, but among utensils, brooms, and tools in hotels, homes, industries. In India, this situation has become very dire. India has the most important number of kid labourers in the world. According to the 1991 census, the number of child labourers was 11.3 million. In 2001 this figure increased to 12.7 million. In big cities as well as small towns, you will find many raju-chotu on every street corner that has been vulnerable to child labour, along with these children also have to face many abominable acts. This has an impact on the innocent mind of children.
To rectify this situation of child labour, the government enacted the child labour Act in 1986, under which child labour was considered a crime and the minimum age for employment was 14years. Along with this, the government has taken steps to eliminate child labour form of national child labour in the form of a national child labour project. The purpose of this project is to save children from this crisis. In January 2005, the national child labour project scheme was expanded to 250 districts in 21 different Indian territories. The main reason for having such a high number of child labourers in India is only poverty. To root out child Labour, it is necessary to end poverty. To provide food twice a day for these children, the government has to take some concrete steps. Not only the government but also the participation of the general public is necessary. If every financially capable person starts taking responsibility for such a child, then the whole scenario will change. As a result of this, today children of their age are forced to work as labourers to study and play in school. Most of the factory or industry owners also give more preference to employ such children. Even after using it for cheap labour and time, children are not able to resist. This gives them more profit by spending less.
