The global consciousness for the environment within the past several years has been greatly heightened due to the undeniable fact of global warming, pollution, and depletion of resources. These changes have forced educational institutions all over the world to integrate environmental education into their systems as they realize the importance of ensuring that the younger generation is prepared adequately in a sadly still relevant battle that involves the nurturing and protection of the environment.

Environmental education has shifted from being an add-on subject to forming a core part of what is taught and learned in schools. It does so as there has been evolvement in the perspective that environment education is important for cultivating sustainable behaviors and raising conscientious global citizens. Environmental education in curriculum involves several areas of learning apart from Science and Geography, but Social studies and arts among others and therefore environmental issues are tackled in a holistic manner.
