D-Man Eliot's Departure Disappoints Coach Danton Cole

With just six games left in the regular season, Michigan State defenseman, Mitch Eliot decided to part his ways from the team earlier this week. He joined with Sarnia of the major junior OHL. His decision dismayed his head coach Danton Cole. His disappointment was a result of the crucial time of the season. "It would have been nice if he wanted to leave to finish," he mentioned. There are just six games to go and on top of that there is Michigan weekend that is coming up making it an odd time to leave the side of the team.

Eliot was one of the top-four defensemen who has played 26 out of the 28 games that will lead into the weekend. In their first game in Eliot's absence, the Spartans tied with the Michigan with 1-1 on Friday but lost the game in the shootout. Eliot has chosen Sarnia String as his club because he feels that it is one step closer to play professional hockey one day while being able to manage to get his college degree. Eliot is son of Darren Eliot, a Cornell graduate and one-time NHL goaltender, who is now a hockey commentator. Sting's general manager, on the other hand, is quite excited about having a veteran defenseman on his team. They have always been welcoming towards Mitch and are happy enough to finally have him play with them.
