Editorials News | Nov-04-2018
Information and communications technology (ICT) refers to all the technology used to handle telecommunications, broadcast media and develops programs as per the need for innovation in daily life which helped in evolution in the industry. It is basically a way that allows all devices, networking components, applications and systems that together allow people and organizations to interact in the digital world. As we all know that education sector in most part of the country employers’ average qualified teachers which are not very handful in using technology but somewhere ICT has made it easy for everyone to learn things and the concept behind it seems luring.
UNESCO in its statement said that ICT can contribute to universal access to education, equity in education, the delivery of quality learning and teaching, teachers' professional development and more efficient education management, governance and administration. UNESCO takes a holistic and comprehensive approach to promoting ICT in education. It basically enables the transformation of teaching, research and learning processes at all levels. It empowers teachers and students, making significant contributions to the education system and remarks a good ground for enhancement of knowledge. For students ICT is very helpful to be more explanatory through making assignments, collecting data and documentation, communicating and conducting research. It is notable that ICT is used independently from the subject matter. In current higher learning institutions, coursework’s, assignments and other work are no longer done the traditional way of paper work. They are done and submitted electronically. ICT plays a key role to impact on three fundamental aspects of education which are; access, quality and cost. It has advanced knowledge by expanding and widening access to education, by improving the quality of education and reducing its cost while extending the education to the remote areas through Virtual, eLearning, online and distance learning. In the current scenario the presence of educational apps for almost every age group, for every subject, fields, etc made a very huge impact. ICT in education has provided more employment opportunities within the education system directly and indirectly through academic and non-academic staff. Online learning allows access to education to larger number of students at very low costs. The significance of the face-to-face learning experience, that is, the size of the rooms and buildings and the students/teacher ratio are eliminated at some place that made evolution. With ICT, a teacher or a student can learn a lesson or a subject cheaply and it can help in reproducing the education easily. This has widened access to tertiary education to young people and too small academic workforce.
