Farmers Of Maharashtra Got A Warning About Monsoon Delay

The government of Maharashtra has issued a notice to the farmers of the state regarding the delay in the start of the monsoon. The department of agriculture has advised farmers to complete agricultural operations prior to planting and to plan their operations according to meteorological warnings. Although the monsoon has reached the Andamans, its further progress remains stagnant. It is not likely that the start of the monsoon will occur over Kerala in the first week of June. A statement issued by the government said: "It is likely that Maharashtra will not receive any rain before the monsoon until June 8. It is expected that conditions of heat waves in the state continue until May 30, except that Vidarbha from the east is the maximum temperature in the remaining parts, the state is expected to start cooling from June 1st. "

In what could become the first major crisis for the government led by the BJP at the Center, it was warned that Western India is likely to face a drought situation. However, he assured that contingency plans were being developed to maintain the supply of drinking water and fodder in the affected areas.

In Maharashtra, the state government has ordered reservoirs to be used only for drinking, leaving farmers and large state industries distrustful of the effects on their production.

The Center, on Tuesday, announced that it was preparing a separate contingency plan for drought-prone regions, such as Vidharbha in Maharashtra, and to help farmers in every way possible so they are not forced to commit suicide. "The monsoon is delayed. Western India is expected to be the most affected and in some pockets a drought situation prevails, "said Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

The threat of inflation reignited

July is a crucial month for the planting of summer crops, and the timing, distribution and volume of monsoon rains are important for planting crops such as rice, oilseeds, sugarcane and cotton. So far, the monsoon has been slow, and June 2014 became one of the driest Junes since registration began in 1901. The month also witnessed 42% less rain than the average. The impact of less rain has already been seen in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan, the country's largest producers of sugarcane, cotton, pulses, soybeans, vegetables and fruits.
