Female Art Curators are the New Game Changers

Whether it is curating, collecting art works, writing about art or dealing with all that goes in the Art world women are making big moves in the world of art across the globe. The world of Art history is fluid and ever changing and the curators have a big role to play.  Curators are not just dedicated art connoisseurs but they have a great responsibility of mediating between artists, institutions and the public. Women with their natural flair have now made their marks in the field of Art curators and many famous Art galleries and museums now boast of Lady Curators.

Recently Baltimore Museum of Art hired three lady curators, namely Asma Naeem, Andaleeb Badiee Banta and Virginia Anderson.

Asma Naeem is an art historian and curator of prints. She has been hired as the Chief curator of Baltimore Museum of Art.Naeem has specialized in an array of courses and teaches Modern European Art, American Art from the Civil War to the Present, and Contemporary Islamic Art. She has also authored a book tentatively titled, “Leaving Yourself Behind".

Andaleeb Badiee Banta is a specialist in Renaissance and Baroque art of Europe. She has a doctorate degree from the Institute of Fine Art, New York University. She is now the Senior Curator and Department Head, Prints, Drawings & Photographs at Baltimore Museum of Art.

Virginia Anderson has a Ph.D. in Art History from Boston University, and an undergraduate degree in Government from Harvard University. She was the Assistant Curator of American Art at the Harvard Art Museums before moving to Baltimore. She now has been hired as curator of American Art in the Baltimore Museum of Art.
