The Union HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar announced at an event recently that both the Central government and the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi have shown a lot of interest in the education sector and resultantly have made substantial allocations to the sector. He highlighted that if one will refer to the data of last five years of the NDA government, it can be clearly seen that the budget for the human resource ministry has been increasing largely. It has seen an increase from Rs. 47,000 crores to Rs. 1.25 lakh crores.
The increase is nearly of 2 and half times in the total allocation. He informed that Rs. 90,000 crores have been allocated to the budget and the remaining Rs. 35 crores to the higher education finance agency. The government expects to make a large difference to the education sector by allocating such huge amount of money. As a result of increased budget, the expenditure on various flagship schemes that have initiated in the last few years will also increase. In the previous year, around Rs. 30,000 crores were allocated to training programmes for the primary and the secondary teachers and for providing aid material for the schools. In the present year, this has been increased to Rs. 36,000 crores. Also, he has claimed that the scholarships for the research students such as junior and senior research fellows has also almost doubled itself in the last five years. Another initiative taken by PM Modi that is worth praise is “Pariksha Pe Charcha”. In the ceremony, certificates were handed over by the minister to students who have completed graduate, post graduate and doctoral courses. He stated that all the credit for the development and innovation that the education sector is seeing goes to PM Modi who has shown deep interest always in the education sector. He is a man with vision. He deeply understands that the country is strong and powerful and imparting education of excellent quality is crucially important. Javadekar stated that they are working on a motto i.e. Sabko Shiksha, Acchi Shiksha. As far as the issue of donning traditional attire in convocation ceremonies is concerned, Union HRD Minister stated that they have not made it compulsory last year but have written to all the universities asking their students to design an Indian convocation uniform.
