Editorials News | Jun-10-2020
While we were having debates on how the underprivileged section of the society is deprived of digital education, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) signed a memorandum to create audio and visual educational content for classes 1 to 12 for students across India. This will be available both on Television and online. The content will be available in Hindi keeping in mind the concern of most of the students about the content being in English.
As we all know, this pandemic has severely hampered a lot of things in the world including the studies. The institutes and schools offered digital classes to the students in the lockdown but the poor section of the society or the ones who have no access to the internet suffered in this digital epoch. Also, most of the content was in English which made it difficult for the students to understand. Considering the same, the government announced to launch one class, one channel plan. In this plan, the government arbitrated to launch 12 new channels. One channel for each class. The expertise of agencies like the NCERT and the CBSE may be used to develop content and run these channels.
To launch these channels and keep the content in Hindi is a great initiative for the education to take a step ahead. There is news that the same content will be available in audio form too on radios as there might be villagers with no access to televisions or DTH. The ministry has collaborated with television networks and radio channels to reach out to students sitting in the remotest corners of India. It is believed that maybe with this action of the HRD Ministry, we may be able to eradicate illiteracy to some extent.
There were NGOs distributing smartphones to the children in the secluded areas and the government handing over books for self-studies but it still couldn’t reach out to children in the darkest areas. With the help of television and radio, these children can take aid of free education in the most convenient way.
Education is both the means as well as the road to a better life. And it’s not fair for these children to fight for their educational rights. We believe the government works accordingly on the plan of action and soon enlightens the lives of these poor children.
