Happiness Classes Likely in Uttarakhand Schools From July
Editorials News | Apr-06-2019
With each passing day, the focus on improving the educational standards among the students has gained strong support from all works of the society. Along with imparting education, quality has become the focal point of this change.
The concept of Happiness Classes was launched at the Delhi’s Public school and has made huge difference, of course in the most positive manner. In this concept, the first half-hour is spent in learning something new every day, in the form of activities, stories, exercises, and much more. This radical change has bought significant improvement and now it’s going to spread among other states in India.
From July onwards, the Uttarakhand education department is going to introduce ‘happiness classes’ in its endeavor to follow the motto of ‘Government School, Happy School.’ This innovative concept is inspired by the massive success that it earned from the Delhi schools.
Seema Jaunsari, director, Academic, Research and Training at the education department said that “Due to the model code of conduct implemented by the Election Commission, they are unable to start happiness classes when the school reopens in April. So we are planning to introduce the classes from the next academic session,”
Talking at a national seminar on ‘Quality Issues in School Education’ on Monday Jaunsari was quite optimistic when he said “We will be ready with the course with all the compulsory feedbacks from our counterparts in Delhi by July”.
Earlier, addressing the delegates, R Meenakshi Sundaram, secretary school education, emphasised the need to focus on quality education instead of boosting enrollment rates to achieve quantity.
There is a need to brainstorm and come up with ideas to improve the quality of education. Sundaram stated – “The emphasis on quantity for such a long period has destroyed the aspect of quality in the long run”.
“Education for all has been nearly achieved but the quality has dropped,” said Sundaram.
The Education secretary carries a novel mindset and explains that “The need of the hour is a quantum jump and not an incremental progress in quality over several years”. He further adds that with various initiatives like Mission Koshish and monthly tests, the state education department keeps mapping these initiatives at regular intervals.
The seminar was attended by educational heads from various states including Delhi, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
Although the spotlight was on Education, the distinguished delegates also discussed their opinions on numerous educational reforms.
