1. Shin Guards
Today, shin guards were used in many sports to protect our shins from injury. But this piece of sports gear was used thousands of years ago by the Ancient Greeks and Romans.
At that time, shin guards were generated from bronze or another hard metal and were worn by players for protection during battle. This wasn’t until the 19th century
that the purpose of shin guards shifted from battle gear to the part of sporting equipment.
2. Golf balls
Out of all sporting equipments, the golf ball has gone for the biggest changes.
In the 19th century, golf balls were known by the name of “feathery”. This mechanism was a hand-sewn, round, leather pouch filled with chicken or goose feathers and with painted white.
However, a “feathery” was difficult and expensive to produce. Feather had to be boiled and softened before they were filled into the leather bag.. It was a difficult task to make the leather pouch perfectly round, and sometimes it would split open upon impact.
3. Athletic shoes
Boots, sandals and high heels,The shoe market is densely packed with variety and choices.
Athletic shoes usually account for 20% of all shoe sales in United States.Also when it comes to sporty footwear, Nike and Adidas are the dominating brands. But, if you’re mentioning specifically about the sneakers, Nike is the one considered as champion.
4. The first yellow tennis ball
Do you know why tennis balls are yellow? The answer is very general and simple: this vibrant yellow color makes the ball easier to detect in ground.
It was Wimbledon that made this fluorescent yellow color ball as the new standard for tennis.
Since 1877, the Wimbledon Championship were using original, white tennis balls for the game.. However, in 1986, players used yellow balls for the first time at this British tournament
