How To Control Global Warming
Editorials News | Apr-05-2020
We have to recognize the fact that over hundreds of years the variety of changes have occurred from a growing population to growing pollution which has resulted in climate change, global warming, ozone depletion, etc.
Firstly, we have to know what exactly global warming is?
It is rise of the average temperature of the Earth’s climate system caused by human activities. The main component that causes global warming is carbon dioxide which is also a greenhouse gas there are other components as well methane, nitrous oxide, etc which are even greenhouse gases. The greenhouse gases are released by burning fossil fuels, industrial emissions, mining, deforestation, etc.
Global warming has adverse impacts. The sea level rises, the surface temperature in the mountains increases which results in loss of snow cover, the retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice. Climate change due to global warming causes harm to the farmers as the farmers plant the crops or trees according to the seasons and the change in climate causes damage to their crops. The other impacts in the environment are the extinction of some species due to the change in their ecosystems, loss of biodiversity(flora and fauna), increased water vapor. Ocean acidification caused by an increased level of carbon dioxide is commonly grouped with these effects though not driven by temperature.
Now, the main aim is to control or reduce global warming. This can be done by launching the alternative technologies of carbon-emitting technologies, fossil fuel technologies, afforestation. These are the policies that a government can adopt and these are only beneficial if implemented on a large scale. It is not only the government that has to take measures to prevent global warming but the people also give their contributions to it. The measures that common people can take are:
1: Replacing a light bulb with LED lights or fluorescent light consume 75 percent less energy and are 25 times longer lasting.
2:Car pools can be done. Carpool is the process in which two or more people share a car to reach the same destination. By carpools, many benefits can arrive i.e. conservation of non-renewable resources and control of global warming.
3:Use of 3R’s that are REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. By recycling, house waste emission of a large number of greenhouse gases can be saved.
4:Plant a tree. A tree has many benefits, for example- a tree provides us with oxygen and intakes carbon dioxide, provides us with fruits and vegetables, it keeps the soil fertile, maintains the structure of the soil, prevents soil from getting eroded, etc.
5:Turn off the electric devices when not in use which results in the prevention of electricity which also results in the prevention of non-renewable resources, as for the production of electricity non-renewable resources are required.
Control of global warming is a long term process it cannot be achieved in one day. If we begin from today we can surely achieve the aim of controlling global warming.
