How Training Methods Enhance Brain Power?

Scientists often make use of brain training methods during researches. Johns Hopkins University recently conducted a research to find out the best- brain training method that improves memory and attention.

The researchers assembled three groups of participants. Everyone took an initial battery of cognitive tests to determine baseline working memory, attention and intelligence. Everyone also got an electroencephalogram (EEG) to measure brain activity. Everyone was then sent home to practice a computer task for a month. Each group was asked to make use of a different brain leading exercise. After the training session that lasted for 5 days a week for 30 minutes, these groups of people returned back to the lab. The researchers concluded that the group that practiced the "dual n-back" exercise showed a 30 percent improvement in their working memory as compared to those who practised the other exercises. They also reflected a change in the brain activity in the prefrontal cortex, a critical region responsible for higher learning. The "dual n-back" is a memory sequence test in which people should remember a constantly updating sequence of visual and auditory stimuli. This shows that “dual n back” is a great exercise to train the working memory.
