
Identify Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: HC

The Delhi High Court has asked the AAP government to identify children suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), one of the most common mental disorders affecting children.
The Bank of Justice, S. Ravindra Bhat and Judge Prateek Jalan also asked the government of Delhi to formulate policies to create training programs for teachers and school personnel so that education is "meaningful and satisfying" for children suffering from ADHD.
The Superior Court order came after hearing a statement from a parent stating that he had been denied admission to his school in 30 schools because he had ADHD. In his statement, he claimed that the Shri Ram Global School here had initially admitted the child's admission, but then asked him to leave the institution. The accusation was denied by the school.
The High Court noted that ADHD per se is not included as a disability in the Individuals with Disabilities Act of 2016.
"However, considering the inclusive nature of the definition under the enactment, this court is of the opinion that the NCT Government of Delhi, which has the responsibility to provide education and has drafted laws and is also responsible for ensuring access to education for all through the right to education must examine the matter carefully ... ", said the Superior Court.
"Submit affidavit"
He directed the principal secretaries of the departments of education and health to hold a joint meeting on the subject and present an affidavit indicating the steps they intend to take.
The Bench has listed the matter for a new hearing on May 7.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurological condition that involves problems of inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity that are inconsistent in the development with the age of the child. Now, we are learning that ADHD is not an attention disorder, as it had long time assumed. Rather, it is a function of the developmental failure in the brain circuits that Monitor inhibition and self-control. This loss of self-regulation hurts other important brains. Crucial functions to maintain attention, including the ability to defer immediate rewards for later gain (Barkley, 1998a). The behavior of children with ADHD may also include an excess of motor activity. The high level of energy and subsequent behavior are often mistakenly perceived as intentional non-compliance when, in fact, they can be a manifestation of the disorder and require Interventions Children with ADHD show a variety of symptoms and severity levels.
