Indian vs Foreign Guides, A Big Dilemma For Wrestlers
Editorials News | Aug-05-2019
Indian Wrestling Coaching Community facing conflicts, with less than a year to go for the Tokyo Olympics, there are signs of inconstancy between Indian and foreign coaching staff in the men’s freestyle section. And very importantly after the current selection trials for the senior world championships, which fling off unexpected results. An air of distress could be felt among the diversion of national coaches after extrusive names like Utkarsh Kale, Sandeep Tomar and Satyendra among others bit the grime during trials. For the testimony, Utkarsh and Sandeep are part of the government-funded Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme and are better-arranged to qualify for Tokyo 2020.
The eye-opening checkmate of some top stars revitalized Indian coaches who denounce foreign coaches as “bossy” and “interrupting” and even questioned their technical expertise. The men’s freestyle squadron has Jagminder Singh as head coach and Iran’s Hossein Karimi as Chief Foreign expert aside from an Indian support staff. There are some private trainers attached with Sushil Kumar and Bajrang Punia.
At the provisionary last week, from the city’s Chhatrasal Stadium instantly Utkarsh and Sandeep lost Rahul. A national coach said that the tentacle were confused and unsure about which trainer’s style to follow. Flawlessly, the two wrestlers should have wrangled the final session, but they lost it in the inaugural round. These are India’s seniors who have been on the wrestling scene for an appreciable time. Still they lost to a wrestler, who is promising but is not a part of the national setup” a coach said.
This is basically because the wrestlers are confused where since 2016 Rio Olympics, there were no foreign trainers for close to three years, wrestlers of the game is trained by the Indian coaches and they followed their techniques. Now that these foreign expertise have alight in a couple of months back. All of a sudden they are willing to change the technique and tricks rather than tweak what the wrestlers already had. Look, our strength is attacking in standing form and stamina but we need to improve this on ground attack on the mat.
“Also, some wrestlers face the sustaining impasse. We follow a different diet, but according to the foreign coaches approach it has a different diet plan which is not admired by wrestlers.
Language barrier is also the great concern. Style of communicating with wrestlers is also matters as it’s also play its part to a great extent. Because Indian coaches have their own style of communicating to wrestlers and because of the use of native language they can boost up their confidence during training or practice time and in an actual competition. The Indian coach added, “a foreign coach instructing wrestlers in his own language may not have the same affect”.
