Inspirational Legend: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Editorials News | Oct-02-2018
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Bapu) on 2nd October every year as a National Festival. It was announced by United Nations General Assembly on 15th June, 2007 that it is embracing a resolution which declares that 2nd October will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.
2nd October is celebrated as one of the three national holidays in all of the states and union territories of India. It is not necessary that one needs to take birth in a big house or city to do some great work. Mahatma Gandhi who is a great example of this was born in a small village of Porbandar in a Brahmin family. Until his childhood, he was just like any other ordinary child, who did not speak very fluent English, but his devotion to raise the country together made him great. Gandhi Jayanti is pronounced by prayer services and tributes to bapu all over India, mainly at Gandhi's memorial in New Delhi where he was cremated. All the organizations throughout the country remain close on this day. People make prayers, pay homage and sing Gandhiji's favorite song "Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Patit Pavan Sita Ram...” It’s his 150th birth anniversary this year. He was called “Father of the Nation” for his remarkable contribution towards the Independence movement as an Indian activist who was the leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule. It was Gandhi who led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world by employing nonviolent civil disobedience movement. He travelled the world and gained support to evict Britishers and gained independence for the people of this country. He always dreamt of Cleanliness and Ramrajya in the country. During his lifetime, Gandhi laid the bedrock of dissent against cleanliness, untouchability and discrimination, emphasis on the use of indigenous goods, promoting the cottage industry, making the village the basis of the economy. Lately Central Government appreciated his vision through the different initiatives such as Make in India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan etc. On this occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a resolution should be taken by the People of India that we will create “a wealthy India”, which Gandhi dreamt of 100 years ago. By adopting Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology in our life, we shall be able to pay the best possible tribute to him.
