ISL To Replace I-League In India

Indian Super League (ISL) will soon replace the I-League as the top-tier competition in our country as per the proposal represented by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on some domestic structure reforms in the country. The roadmap was further formulated in a meeting with the I-League and ISL clubs officials of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and also the AFC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently. The officials of FSDL and the organisers of the ISL, were also there during the meeting.
According to the roadmap, the ISL champions would further also be entitled to a play-off place in the League of AFC Champions and the I-League champions would then take a place in the AFC Cup in a package that will take into consideration of the recommendations of FIFA/AFC report of 2017.
AFC General Secretary, Dato Windsor John told in a statement that all of them has to put the good aspect of Indian football at the forefront and then take the decisions which are best to develop Indian club football. The AFC furthermore will be very much involved to see to the growth of the game to another level with the pathway towards a single league.
He also added that every point of the package has been thought of and also taken out extreme care and it is focussed simply at giving the best chance to develop the Indian club football. We have now informed AIFF that 10-12 teams will not be enough for the top League and it must be bigger.
The proposal has now to be presented in front of the AFC Executive Committee and further it is waiting the AIFF Executive Committee for its approval.
As per the roadmap which was proposed in 2019-20 seasons, the ISL will this time attain the status of premier league competition in the Indian football.
Besides this, as a special compensation to India, the AFC will enable the winning ISL club to showcase India in the AFC Champions League play-offs, and the winner of I-League will get a chance to play the AFC Cup play-off.
