Jets Might Benefit From Keeping Stastny On Top Of Their Arbitration List

As the season is all wrapped up for Jets and the NHLPA has announced the full arbitration list, it is not a shocker to see that Jets restricted free agents in more than 10 percent of their filings. 5 of the players filed namely Connor Hellebuyck, Adam Lowry, Marko Dano, Adam Lowry and Jacob Trouba. But Cheveldayoff have known for a while that Winnipeg is going to have a busy summer when it will come to arbitration. Cheveldayoff said that they are aware of the fact that a lot of players who have contacts coming up are are arbitration eligible. And there is no need to panic as the Jets have around $27 million in the cap space to drive up their arbitration hearings.

The two most important contracts are Hellebuyck who has just come from a trip to Vegas with a runner up position for the Vezina Trophy and Trouba, one of the top defenders who will mostly demand a raise. For both the players, a long term deal with good salaries seems like the best solution. Other players who are in lineup are Lowry and Tanev who might have short term contracts with low values. That leaves us with Dona who could be expected to sign a deal in a million dollar range. Jets let Stastny leave the team given that they had to shell out a lot of money. And the Stastny loss may seem inconsequential in the short term but considering that Winnipeg was one of the players in top spot for Central Division and Presidents' Trophy, this may not affect the team that much.
