Kerala Schools Are the Best in India

Education rate is not very great in India. But if compared, Kerala has the highest literacy rate amongst all other states. This fact has been proved time and again. In the year 2018, the Annual Status of Education Report reiterated this fact.

The study was conducted in over 596 districts, 17,730 villages, 354, 944 households and on 546,527 children aged between 3 to 16 years. The study stated that Kerala is the best when it comes to education. The study covered all government schools. On the parameters of attendance in the primary sections of the government schools, Kerala secured the second position. There has not been any private enrolment in the schools of Kerala since the year 2014. Also, the mathematical capabilities of the students studying in the governments schools of Kerala are way better than other states. Kerala stands first with 44.7 per cent in the list of states where students studying in class III can at least do subtraction. The report stated that there has been a 5% hike in the improvement of the students’ performance concerning reading and performing arithmetic. The experts believe that the reason behind Kerala’s good performance in the pre primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary education is its awareness and exposure. Also, the government is making efforts to improve the infrastructure and other facilities in government schools. More and more parents are now admitting their children here in the government schools. The no. of students being enrolled in the senior secondary classes of the government schools are way higher than the private schools. The number of students being enrolled in high schools and higher secondary schools run by the government is 58.5 per cent as compared to 34.3 per cent in the private schools. Alongside, even the number of girls in the age group of 15 to 16 years who are not enrolled in the school has decreased from 1.1 in 2006 to 0.6 in 2018. As far as the reading skills are concerned, the students of the private schools are way ahead than their counterparts in the government schools. On the contrary, when it comes to arithmetic, the performance of the government school students is not far behind in comparison to the private school children. The capabilities have improved from 36.0 in 2014 to 44.7 in the year 2018. When it comes to reading skills, it was found that the girls trumped boys in all age categories. While in the case of arithmetic, the divide was not big.
