We here at Bored Panda have written many posts on weird facts about animals, random facts about life and interesting facts about history, but we've never before shared what we've found about everyone's favourite drink coffee! So this list is dedicated to you, coffee lovers and curious people.
Coffee was first introduced in the 15th century, and to this day it maintains its status as one of the most popular beverages, with millions of coffee drinkers worldwide. The black brew is made from ripe berries which are picked from the coffee plant, processed and dried. Once dry, these 'beans' are roasted and ground to be brewed into the coffee drink we all know and love. Over the centuries, coffee has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry and become part of our lifestyle and even cultural phenomena.
Caffeine in the coffee is depends on the amount of time coffee is get roasted, if coffee is roasted for a longer time then more caffeine is cooked from the bean. Dark roast coffee has less caffeine compared to light roast coffee.
To get matured it takes 3 to 4 years for a coffee tree and once it gets matured, it will bear one to two pounds of beans per growing season.
A coffee tree produces very less coffee beans. It provides beans enough to fill a half-kilo bag of ground coffee.
One of the interesting things is that, Dutch coffee merchants are presented the King of France, Louis XIV, in 1715, with a coffee tree. Thanks to Chevalier Gabriel Mathieu de Clieu, who stole some of the cuttings from the tree and began cultivating in the Caribbean and millions of trees sprung from that tree in this way within 50 years they got over 20 million trees on Caribbean islands within 50 years.
Coffe arabica and coffea robusta are the two main species of coffee which are used for commercial production of coffee. Robusta beans contain 40-50% more caffeine, and used in instant coffees, while Arabica trees are the most widely cultivated ones and produce the best quality coffee.
Researches have shown that drinking coffee may decrease neuro-degenerative disorders and cognitive decline.
