Manish Sisodia Claims The Construction of 8,000 Classrooms in Delhi
Editorials News | Feb-01-2019
Education is one important subject that requires a lot of focus and funding in order to improvise largely. In the year 2015, there were nearly 17,000 broken classrooms in government schools in the city of Delhi. Shri Manish Sisodia, Education Minister of Delhi has informed that presently there are around 25,000 classrooms that are in good condition in Delhi and this figure will reach upto 37,000 by the end of the year 2019.
He further informed that the AAP government has constructed more than 8,000 classrooms in the already existing schools and claimed that by the end of the year 2019, there will be 12,000 more classrooms. He tweeted that the construction of nearly 11,000 classrooms has already commenced and the tender for around 1,000 has been floated. He also expressed the Delhi government’s concern for education and stated that Education and health care has always been at the top of the priority list of the Delhi government. According to reports, the schools in Delhi are in a very bad shape. There is lack of desks, books, proper infrastructure etc. In a North MCD Primary school in Rohini’s Nithari village, nearly 21 out of a total of 30 teachers were suspended for dereliction of duties in June last year. In another school i.e. Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya (SKV), Hari Nagar, Clock Tower, a major accident took place. The accident happened in last year in the month of September. During the accident, a chunk of the roof of the classroom came crumbling down and resultantly the teacher suffered injuries on her head and nose. The teacher who got injured was Ms. Mamta Sharma who was teaching Sanskrit at that time to the students. Ms. Sharma suffered serious injuries and bled profusely. Such incidents prove that how real and worth believing are the claims of the government. Improvement should be visible in the classrooms and at the ground level and not in records or on paper. There is really requirement for a lot more funding in the area of education at the national level. This is just the case of one city. If seen on a national level, the situation is even worse. Firstly, the number of schools in comparison to the population is very less. On the other hand, where there are schools, the basic facilities and infrastructure are absent. The government really needs to wake up and take effective steps in this respect.
