Mental Health in our Country

Mental health is very different from the general health of humans as in some circumstances people who have mental illness may not be in position for making decisions on their own. People who are sufferers rarely get access to appropriate medical treatment as their families try to hide their condition to avoid shame.

There are over to 300 million people who have been estimated for suffering from depression that is equivalent to 4.4% of the total world's total population. According to a recent study which was conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences there is 1 person in every 40 and 1 person in every 20 people who are currently suffering from the past and the current episodes of depression cases in India.

In spite of this being big burden of mental health issues, unfortunately, it also continues for being misunderstood in the countries like India which are developing. The new Mental Healthcare Act 2017 rescinds/revoked some existing Mental Healthcare Act 1987 which had also been widely criticized for not recognizing the advance rights of a mentally ill person.

Health has also encompassed the composite union of spiritual, physical, mental, and also social dimensions which is according to the World Health Organization (WHO) that also recognizes that mental health and also the well-being are fundamental for quality of life that enables people for experiencing life as meaningful, becoming creative and some active citizens.
