Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama

Whenever one hears the name Michelle Obama, the very first thing that comes to the mind is an image of an immensely dignified, learned, and kind person. It is rarely that you get to see all of these qualities coming together.

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama was born on the 17th of January, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois to Fraser Robinson and Marian Shields Robinson. Michelle grew up in a very stable environment that her parents had created. It was a very conventional upbringing where her mother stayed at home to look after the children till they were old enough while her father worked at the city water plant. Mr. Robinson suffered from multiple sclerosis which had profound emotional effect on young Michelle during her growing up years. It made her determined to be a good student, pursue her education diligently and stay out of trouble and that was what her parents inculcated in her. She was always focused when it came to her education and graduated in 1981 as the second highest ranked student in the class.

Like her brother she studied at Princeton University. She majored in sociology and minored in African American Studies and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in the year 1985. In 1988 she earned her Juris Doctor (J.D) degree from Harvard Law School.

It was during her career working at law firm Sidley Austin that she met Barak Obama. Michelle also worked as the Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago. She was also the Vice President for Community and External Affairs of the University of Chicago Medical center.
