Modern Is Not Always Better
Editorials News | Aug-08-2019
Speaking of Modern education versus the ancient methods of education, let us delve into the realms of ancient Indian method of education or the Vedic methods. The origin of the Vedas can be traced back as far as 1500 BCE. The language of Vedas is Sanskrit, an ancestor of most of the modern languages that are spoken today across South Asia.
The ancient Vedic education system was religious in nature. If we notice mostly every aspect of life or how one goes about conducting oneself in his/her life revolved around existence of God, heaven and hell. The concept of leading life was much simplified, meaning if you do well you will be rewarded by God with your place in heaven or for all the wrongs that you do you will have to face your punishment in hell. Even the most basic day to day living was associated with good and bad. The ancient scholars did not encourage research in science as they believed that advance knowledge of energy and material would lead humanity towards destruction. Their deep belief in the existence of God actually resulted in a balanced society where people were not corrupt, there was no chaos and they were able to in the real sense of the term enjoy immense happiness in life. This is what they preached and practiced.
If we really try to delve in the ways of the ancient humans, especially that of the Vedic era we will realize there are lot of things that were done which actually had scientific reasons behind doing so. The examples are many, like not eating fish during certain months of the year, why because those are the months when these fishes spawn and eating them would destroy their species. Ancient education was all about being natural; things used were natural and bio degradable. Whatever came from the environment went back to the environment. However, modern education and inquisitiveness brought several changes. Life truly did become easy in many ways but this modernization has also made our life synthetic. We have moved away from everything that was natural and today when we look back we realize that our modern education has brought us to this stage where we are looking at destruction of this earth and global calamity in the eye. Modernization of education has definitely landed us on moon but not before we have destroyed the one and only planet we call home. Today people are realizing the damage done and there is a cry from every part of this world to go back to old methods and techniques so that we can stop the destruction of this planet.
In short, we always think that ancient people had little knowledge of materials and technologies; however those were sufficient for happiness of humanity and maintaining the ecological balance. Trying to find God in even the smallest of things was nothing but reverence for the Earth and the fear of hell was to avoid the wrath of nature and its destruction. We cannot deny the fact that our modern education and methods has truly brought us face to face with living hell, as heaven and hell both exist here on Earth.
