
Motzko to Replace Lucia

As per the latest news, Bob Motzko, who is the head coach in St. Cloud State is resigning. He is planning to take the same position at Minnesota. Motzko has coached St. Cloud since the year 2005.
Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle stated that they are excited to welcome him back to Gopher Hockey. Motzko has grown up and started off his career in Minnesota. He completely understands the legacy of the program. He will definitely leave no stone unturned in adding more to the success and culture of Gopher Hockey. Motzko is 57 years old and is replacing Lucia. He is a native of Austin, Minnesota. His career started off his coaching career as an assistant under Herb Brooks at St. Cloud in the year 1986-87. Motzko then went to the USHL for four years, and then coaching stints at Miami and Denver in the NCAA. From 1998-2001, Motzko acted as the coach and general manager of Sioux Falls in the USHL. He owns a 276-192-49 record, along with eight NCAA appearances. He was the head coach of the U.S. World Junior team the preceeding two years. In 2017, the team won a gold medal under his leadership.
