NASA Gets An Emmy Nomination For Its Grand Finale Of Cassini Spacecraft

NASA's coverage of the Cassini spacecraft's Grand Finale at Saturn has gotten it an Emmy nomination. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has nominated NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Original Interactive Program. After almost 20 years in space and 13 years around the Saturn system, on 15th September 2017, the orbiter began plunging towards the planet in a final dive.

This took Cassini between the planet and its rings. The live footage shows the plummeting and how the spacecraft continued to send data back to Earth even during its last moments. Apart from the live coverage, the staff also showed Cassini's journey through an expansive campaign. They used posts and live videos on social media, TV, mission's website, education and press materials, short film that reflected the magnitude and history of the mission, education and press materials etc. to bring the journey live to the public. The materia showed the real-time tracking of each and every last moment of Cassini. This considerable and unmatched images of the orbiter Cassini has made it to surprising nomination. NASA mission isn't normally in line for awards like Emmy but Cassini is an exception. It brought Saturn to Earth in a very exciting, surprising and unprecedented way. The mission brought to light Saturn's beauty and pointed out some thrilling details about the origins, compositions of the planet and its rings along with its 60 moons.
