NCERT's New Guidelines Will Protect Children's Privacy In Preschools

Preschool throughout the country will have to protect children's privacy in case they take photographs or make their audio/video clips during any school activity. These new guidelines are issued by NCERT for preschools after consultation with people that recognise the issue. These clipping and photographs help educators to monitor child's progress at school. It also helps to enhance confidence in children. But now these things would be subject to privacy considerations.

There are many people who have pointed out that a lot of preschools make these clippings/photographs public without proper consent of parents. NCERT's revised guidelines now consider this as a safety measure. Guidelines for "technology in preschools" also talks about screen time and prohibit use of any kind of media for children less than 2 years old and urge against their use for children between ages of 2 and 5. The document states all the children have access to technology these days and it can be useful only when used for productive purposes like increasing vocabulary, conceptual understanding etc. This only happens when adults act as a mediator. Passive technology should be discouraged. The document is not binding but made with consultation. Therefore, most of the ducator have agreed on implementing them.
