Nocturia Could Be A Sign of Hypertension

The condition in which people wake up during the night because they need to urinate is Nocturia. The common reasons for these frequent trips to the lavatory at night include high sleep disorders, fluid intake, and bladder obstruction.

Generally, people who aren’t suffering from nocturia can sleep up to 8 hours without having to urinate, but some might need to get up once during the night; one trip every night is still considered to be within normal limits. While, the people having nocturia may get up 2–6 times during one night.

Nocturia could also be a symptom of alternative health conditions, as well as bladder prolapse, a tumour of the bladder or prostate, and alternative disorders affecting sphincter muscle control. Pregnant ladies and patients with heart or liver failure and diabetes might also experience nocturia.

As our body ages and we become old, our bodies manufacture less of an antidiuretic hormone that permits us to retain fluid — this ends up in more urine production during the night. People in older age groups also tend to lose holding capacity and are more likely to have medical problems that impact the bladder.

As per a poll in 2003 conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, approximately two-thirds of responders that were between the ages of 55 and 84, reported that they suffered from nocturia at least a few nights per week.
