Overcoming with anxiety in children

Anxiety and stress are common these days, even in children. There can be various reasons to feel anxious. Most parents believe that this shy and awkward phase of life will go with time. Well, it is not true; it doesn't go with age.

Here are a few tips to help children with anxiety-

Help to manage it- Don't try to eliminate anxious behaviour or treat it like a disease. The best way to help children with it is to help them believe that it is normal to feel this way though; they have to learn how to manage it.

Don't avoid things that make children anxious- Believing that avoiding certain situations or activities will no longer cause anxiety in children is totally wrong. They can feel that way even when everything seems to be right and good.

Portray real expectations- Don't tell the kids that you believe he or she won't pass the exam. Tell her/him that they have to give their best and leave the rest for the teachers.

Don't always help the children- While dealing with different life scenarios; they might feel uncomfortable or afraid. Make sure they know that they are strong enough to deal with difficulties.

Encouragement- Remember to motivate children from time to time. Let them know that you support them and you are there for them. Tell them that if they face their fear, they will be able to handle them.

Shorter anticipation period- When we are afraid to do something, the period before doing it is more dreadful. If anyone has a fear of something, don't remind them about it daily.

Talk through fears- It is better to talk about what they fear and how they are planning to cope with it. Talk through the process of overcoming the fear. Make them believe that it will change them and are strong enough to handle it.

It is not the fault of the children to feel what they are feeling. Feeling anxious, stressed, or uncomfortable in certain situations is completely normal.Every age group goes through numerous emotions throughout their lives. Making children understand the importance of expressing and not bottling down emotions is as important as teaching them basic maths.

You must try to be their first friend and their support system through every situation in life. Everyone feels the end number of emotions. No one should be ashamed to express them.
