Padam Shri Awardee: M.K. Kunjol

His journey for equity began as a student and now, at 82 years old, M.K. Kunjol's life is an account of battles that he drove for fairness in the public eye. He has been deliberated with the Padma Shri for social work this year — an acknowledgment for his battles to guarantee equity for Dalits and his battles against police outrages on them. He has been instrumental in making crafted by B.R. Ambedkar and Ayyankali famous among the majority. He was regarded by the State government with the first Ambedkar grant as of late.
Kunjol's better half keeps on filling in as a day by day wage worker. In spite of his family, including six youngsters, battling to make a decent living, Kunjol proceeds with his battles for the minimized. "Until there is a sensible accomplishment for Dalits in the regions of training and occupations, the social improvement list doesn't bode well," says Mr. Kunjol who joined MBBS in the wake of graduating in science from Maharaja's College, however couldn't finish the course as a result of different reasons.
Though he was amidst numerous understudy battles and governmental issues, he had never joined a gathering. He decided to battle decisions all alone and turned into a well-known speaker. Alongside his battle for social equity, he has made a profound excursion too from adolescence. He accepts his introduction to science has helped him disentangle more in the issues of body and psyche.
Naturally introduced to a group of six kin to Vallothi and Kurumban close Perumbavoor, Kuruppampady, in Rayamangalam panchayat, Mr. Kunjol feels that regardless of the execution of land changes in the State, there are lakhs of individuals who are landless. The two political fronts, which had driven the administrations in the State, have not done equity to such individuals, he says. His own home is arranged on a Government land for which he has no possession rights.
