Editorials News | Mar-26-2019
A police officer on Monday said that a printing press owner has been arrested by the Delhi Police claiming a syndicate involved in pirating (printing and circulating) books of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
Abhishek Chaudhary, 28, was arrested on March 12th from his residence in Shakarpur. This incident happened after a joint team of the Delhi Police and the NCERT Production Officer raided his offset press in Gazipur, East Delhi, and unearthed the nexus. A huge quantity of papers with the watermark of NCERT and over 700 pirated books worth Rs. 50 lakh were recovered, the officer added. The accused has been booked under the Act of Copyright.
Additional Commissioner of Police Rajiv Ranjan said that after finishing studies, Chaudhary joined the printing press of his father. He later came in contact with Rahul Jain who is a resident of Karawal Nagar. He also ran an offset press. He asked him to print the title pages of some NCERT books. Mr. Ranjan said that through Rahul, Chaudhary came to know that piracy of NCERT books attracted huge profit. He then decided to establish his own offset press named 'Abhishek Graphics'. Then, he started printing books for Cass VIth and Class XIIth for the new academic sessions.
The officer added that he also bought NCERT watermarked paper from Chawri Bazaar. After printing books, he used to distribute them to different parts of north and south India.
