Reservation - Necessary or Not
Editorials News | Oct-07-2020
The existence of the caste system makes a reservation as an ‘unfortunate’ system. The caste system is nothing but an unfortunate and ugly reality of our Indian society. Have you ever realized why reservation is our necessity? But Indeed, it is.
According to anti-reservation groups, people belong to SCs and STs categories leave their answer sheets blank and still managed to get enrolled themselves into a good institution or get a job because these people get various benefits of reservation. But that's not true. The fact is the reserved seats are mostly unoccupied in institutions like IIM. If there would be any unfair means, then why would be there unoccupied reserved seats? It's the common thinking of General-category students that SCs and STs use low cut-offs to show how unfair it is for the General category and how easy for them to enter into a good institution.
Have you ever wondered! why do the upper caste people feel cheated by this reservation system? The answer is the lack of unemployment in our country. Due to the drastic rise in population, Our government could not provide enough jobs to the people. And this came out in such a way that people vent their anger on reservation whereas they should be asking for more jobs for everyone, but of course, blaming reservation is easier and perhaps more satisfactory.
In recent days, reservation is used for political purposes and it is also misused by people who do not deserve it. Our Indian society is divided into groups based on castes. The reservation came into existence to end the dominance of certain groups and to provide a sense of worthiness to neglected and oppressed groups so that they could become equal to the other groups.
To give more chances to people from different and lower backgrounds (castes), It is important to have a reservation system. Being a responsible citizen of our country, we must realize that no matter what is the background of an individual, every human being has some representation in the society and to maintain the balance and give the oppressed a place in the society, the reservation system plays an important role.
To maintain peace with caste-based reservations, we should have compassion, sensitivity, and a sense of brotherhood with different people as India is a diverse nation, and Unity in Diversity is our strength.
We should not discriminate against anyone and must not treat as inferiors in our country. In India, many sewage workers (almost all of them being Dalits), die every day while working because of the poisonous gases, and thousands of farmers commit suicide every year. If you have sympathy and a sense of belonging, then do not ill-treat any individual because of their caste.
