RTE Seats In CBSE Schools Will Be Filled With The Help Of A Centralized Process
Editorials News | May-02-2019
Beginning this year, reserved seats at CBSE schools under the Right to Education Act (RTE) will also be covered through the centralized admissions process conducted by the school's enrollment school (DMS) in the state. While CBSE schools follow the conventional method of inviting the hard copy of the application to fill out the seats under RTE, the state government switched to online mode in 2017.
RTE seats in schools run by the state are filled out under a centralized system by which parents submit online applications that elect five schools of their choice that appear on the DMS web portal. However, the CBSE schools here have been filling their RTE seats unilaterally by requesting a hard copy of the applications. Amid parent complaints that the list of CBSE schools has not been included in the admissions portal under the RTE law, DMS will monitor admissions to CBSE schools as of this year as well. The main education office has asked CBSE schools in the district to share details about the number of seats available for admission under the RTE law. The same will be added to the RTE web portal so that parents who reside near these schools can opt for these seats. "The list of CBSE schools will be available on the web portal no later than Tuesday," said CEO M Ramakrishnan. "But most of the places in these schools would have already been filled since the academic year for these schools begins in April," he said.
The seats left unfilled in these CBSE schools will be filled through the centralized system. While most CBSE schools had occupied their RTE seats, there were some schools for which the academic calendar began in June and for the state board, said Padma Srinivasan, president of the Rockcity Sahodaya school complex, an academic forum of CBSE schools in Trichy S Gnanamani, a father of Woriayur, said: "DMS should allow parents to edit the online application submitted since April 22. Many parents cannot opt for CBSE schools even though they wish to do so since the schools were not on the portal, "he said.
