Schools Can't Deny Admission Because Of Lack Of Aadhaar

A circular issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said that all students should be ensured education and no child should be deprived of getting into a school just because they lack Aadhaar. They should not be denied for their due benefits for want of Aadhaar, said the circular. The UIDAI asserted that refusal of admission to any student because they don't have a Aadhaar card will be considered as 'invalid'. They also urged schools to synchronize with district administrations, local banks, post offices etc. so as to facilitate special camps to make people aware about Aadhaar enrollment and updation.

The official circular was addressed to the Chief Secretaries of State and stated that UIDAI was aware of some instances where some schools refused admission to their schools because of the absence of Aadhaar. They warned that such denials are considered to be invalid and not permitted under the law. The issuing body for Aadhaar said that no child should be refused admission or other basic rights based on Aadhaar.

The move has definitely brought some major relief to parents and students who face difficulties during the school admission process when they insist on Aadhaar. There should be alternate means of identification available for the students until the Aadhaar is assigned or biometrics are updated.
