Science - A Gift to Humanity
Editorials News | Mar-01-2018
With the National Science Day round the corner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to eminent contributors in the field of science, particularly physicist C.V. Raman, on whose honour the day is observed.
But do you know why we celebrate Science Day? We celebrate National Science Day on February 28 every year to honor Bharat Ratna, Sir CV Raman because it was on this day that he discovered the phenomenon of light scattering that later came to be known as the Raman Effect. He was also awarded Nobel Prize for the same. India has given the world eminent scientists including Jagadish Chandra Bose, Prafulla Chandra Ray, Srinivasa Ramanujan, Aryabhatta, Shushruta and many others.
While speaking about Maharishi Aurobindo, Modi added that people like him could find answers to every questions and perhaps it helped them paved the path of truth for humanity. He emphasized the fact that we should never let our inquisitiveness die. Curiosity and the determination to quench thirst often lead people to seek light that illuminate the whole world and this is what is called science!
