Sources Revealed That SAI Coach Piyush Kumar Dubey Joins India's Men's Hockey Camp

There were rumors about Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach Piyush Kumar Dubey to be a part of the coaching set-up of India's men's hockey team. They have turned out to be true. Sources of the team have confirmed that Dubey has joined the national camp at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru on Monday. The camp involves the core group of 34 players. It is led by Hockey India's (HI) High-Performance Director and interim coach David John. The analytical coach of the team is Chris Ciriello.
One of the sources said that yes he has becomes the part of the camp, but it's David and Chris who will be calling all the shots. He added that it could be that Hockey India desires to groom someone for the future by letting him work under experienced coaches.
However, there has been no official announcement by HI of the same. The name of Dubey had been doing the rounds as someone reportedly being looked at by HI. Someone as an assistant to the new chief coach who is yet to be appointed. This happened after Harendra Singh was removed following the World Cup last year. HI has extended the application’s deadline for the job of the coach from 15th February to 28th February.
Dubey being working with SAI and the Allahabad University was part of the group of 25 coaches who went to Birmingham in 2016 on an exposure trip, focused at learning how to combine coaching with sports science.
India is scheduled to kick off the new seasons at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia from 23rd March.
The team of India national field hockey was the very first non-European team to be a part of the International Hockey Federation. The team in 1928 won its first Olympic gold medal and until 1960, the Indian men's team remained unbeaten in the Olympics. The team wins six gold medals in a row. With 30–0 winning streak during this time, the team remains excited from their first game until losing in the 1960 gold medal final. The Indian team also won the 1975 World Cup. This team is one of the most successful teams ever in the Olympics, having won eight gold, one silver, and two bronze medals till date.
