Teacher Who Took School To Students' Houses

When children in a village were not attending the school or dropped without completing an year, this principal made sure that the school reached to the child's locality. With the help of 'Mohalla Prarthana Sabha', the school was able to leave such an impression on the children that they were excited to attend their next class. Brain behind this initiative is Gopalkrishna Patel, principal of the Nava Nadisar Primary School. He has been awarded innovative teacher award at both district and state levels due to his initiatives like Mohalla Prarthna Sabha.

Every week, they go to a neighborhood in village with school students to conduct an assembly. This assembly is an open event and all the people who live in the locality, children and parents, can come and witness the assembly, explained Patel while talking about this initiative.

The initiative started after school noticed absence of children in school and several not even taking admission into the school. After witnessing this, school decided to take the assembly to areas where both attendance and admission rates were low. And the decision was successful. 30 to 35 students decided to come to school after witnessing assembly.

Their approach of first understanding the students and then teaching them has not only been noted by UNICEF but has been noted  by UNICEF tool. One of their teachers, Raksha Patel, has also been picked up for the National Award to Teachers for the year 2017.
