The 2019 College Basketball Wizard - Zion Williamson
Editorials News | Apr-04-2019
For every sportsman, one of the most daunting tasks is to withstand the race against time. When dreams begin to die and when it’s on the floor as the game is over, the crucial 10 minutes is not enough to unwind before the press meet begins.
For the senior members, the thought of retiring soon and the sprawling career facing a dead wall is nothing less than a nightmare! Along with the seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen want to end the journey on a happy note. The NCAA tournament is the best platform for the seniors, for one last time.
Freshmen like Zion Williamson.
Zion has been a splendid sportsman and very few match his strength and dynamism. His first ever performance at the Champions Classic was a teaser as he gave an astounding performance of his capabilities. He announced his arrival in style and everyone noticed that. In one sentence – it’s the attitude that reflects everything.
It soon became apparent to those scouting against him, though, that Williamson’s excellence was borne as much of his understanding of how to use his physical gifts. Using his overwhelming leverage and swift ignited moves and managing the defenders, he made it quite difficult for the opposition to manage.
One of the most memorable moments of his sporting career was the match with NCAA East Region final. The Michigan State All-American Cassius Winston escaped Duke’s attempt to foul him with a few seconds left. At that point, Spartans were leading by a point and the way he dribbled alone into the frontcourt to achieve the final four was extraordinary. Then, Williamson simply was one of four in his class who might never again wear the Duke uniform. Their pain was not disguised.
After the game, Williamson told reporters - “A lot is obviously going through our mind right now; I’m very upset, obviously, because we wanted to go to the Final Four. Congratulating the Michigan State, he said “They deserve it. They played a hell of a game”.
“And just look around the locker room and see your teammates, your brothers. And you think, just, this group probably never will play together.”
It’s quite likely we never will see another Zion Williamson in college basketball, and that’s unfortunate. Zion strongly feels that there would be a No.1 player in the classes of 2019, 2020 as well as 2021. However, it’s unlikely any of these will make the overwhelming impact Williamson delivered in just his freshman year at Duke.
