The Extra Efforts of Delhi Government School Teachers
Editorials News | Sep-26-2018
Teachers in Delhi are following an unusual trend of arriving 30 minutes early and leaving 30 minutes late. Most of them might think that it is such an exemplary move towards ensuring punctuality but it is actually because of the emergence of the new biometric system to mark the attendance of teachers. They say that they need to stand in long queue before they can give their biometrics and enter the Aadhaar card number. The process takes time and they worry that they might get marked late because of the delay. Employee Attendance Report is released by Directorate of Education website which makes details of employees' timings available to the general public.
Most teachers are unhappy not only because of the time the process takes but also because they still need to mark their attendance on register. A teacher at a school in Delhi Kohat Enclave said that even though the school starts at 7:00 AM, most of the teachers reach the school by 6:15 - 6:30 AM. Putting in Aadhar Card numbers is a time-consuming process and no one wants to risk being late.
Many teachers have also questioned the system and the need to end the Aadhar card numbers. This is the main reason why the process takes so much time and not the biometrics itself. Another argument that the teachers have put forward is why to use the technology when they still have to record everything on paper.
