The Game of Volley Ball
Editorials News | Oct-21-2018
The game of volley ball is a team sport that is played between two teams. The game of volley ball is an inexpensive game. It requires a smooth surfaced court of about 9 meters by 18 meters. A tightly stretched net is tied in the middle of the court. Each team possesses around 6 players. Each team makes an effort by scoring points by grounding the ball on other team's court as per rules.
A player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team should make sure that they do not let the ball be grounded within their court. The team may touch the ball up to 3 times. The individual players should not touch the ball twice consecutively. Typically, the first two touches are used to set up for an attack, an attempt to direct the ball back over the net in such a way that the serving team is unable to prevent it from being grounded in their court. Volleyball has been a part of the Summer Olympic Games since the year 1964. The game of volley ball was invented back in the year 1985. It was basically an easy version of the game of basketball invented for those businessmen who found basketball to be too vigorous. The game soon after became popular and was played by both males and females in schools, playgrounds, armed forces and various other organizations. The first nationwide tournament for volley ball was played in United States by the National YMCA Physical Education Committee in New York City. The game became famous internationally in the year 1913. The standardized rules for the game got acceptance in the year 1949 and 1952. The game of volley ball saw significant changes in the rules during the 2000 Olympics. One of the key changes was the introduction of "libero", a player on each team who acts as a defensive specialist. The libero has to be dressed in a different colour than the rest of the team and shall not serve or rotate to the front line. Additionally, a rule change has been brought up that allows the defensive side also to score.
