The Golden Fiber of Bangladesh

Jute is commonly known as the golden fibre in many countries, especially in Bangladesh because in Bangladesh, this fibre grows annually and this country produces approximately 80 per cent of jute fibre in the world. Bangladesh is also considered the largest producer and exporter of raw jute in the world.

Why is jute called the golden fibre of Bangladesh? Jute is mainly called the golden fibre because of its brownish colour which sometimes resembles golden colour as well. Along with this, there are other numerous things which contribute to giving it this name. One such thing is its importance and its uses.

Why is jute important? Jute is the second most important and mostly sold fibre next to cotton. It is a rough, sturdy and strong fibre used for various things.

What are the main characteristics of jute? It is a 100 per cent natural and biodegradable fibre which does not harm our environment. It is one of the cheapest natural fibres. It is a strong fibre which does not break easily. This fibre usually grows in the Ganges delta region. Jute also has great heat insulation property.

What are the main uses of jute fibre?

1. Jute is a sturdy and strong fibre is commonly used for making gunny bags. These gunny bags are used for storing grain and other things.

2. Because of its heat insulation property, it is usually used by hawkers to store ice sheets as doing this prevents the melting of ice.

3. Jute is also widely used for making blankets, baskets, bags, mats etc.

These were the main reasons which give jute it’s the golden name.
