
The Legend Fridtjof Nansen

On October 10, 2017, Google dedicated its doodle to Fridtjof Nansen who was a Norwegian explorer, diplomat, scientist, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize winner too at the same time. He was born on October 10, 1861 and basically originated from Denmark. In his early days he was champion skier and wonderful ice skater.
He was the leader of the team who first crossed the Greenland interior in 1888, traversing the island on cross-country skis. His popularity increased when he reached the northern latitude of 86°14′ during his North Pole expedition of 1893–96 that was a three years long tiring journey. He became an ultimate source of inspiration for others. His of polar travel skills, his innovative equipment along with the clothing influenced a generation of further Arctic and Antarctic expeditions. After doing various researches he moved towards studying oceanography then going forward he invented many scientific cruises, mainly in the North Atlantic, which contributed to the development of modern oceanographic equipment that is remarkable.
During the last years of his life, Nansen devoted himself to the League of Nations, and was appointed in 1921 as the League's High Commissioner for Refugees. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work for the displaced victims of the First World War and related issues in 1922. He also introduced "Nansen passport" for stateless persons, a certificate that is recognised by more than 50 countries. He died in 1930.
