If maths tests seems like straight out of horror movie to you, the solution could be as simple as sitting straight. Researchers have come to a conclusion that over 50% of students find it easier to solve the problems if their posture is good. They also said that the method could be useful for public speakers, musicians and athletes. Slumping over is a defensive posture can can bring negative old memories in the body and brain, said Richard Harvey, co-author of study.
For anyone who has math anxiety, something as simple as posture can make a huge difference, said Erik Pepper who is San Francisco State University Professor of Health Education. Even though there wasn't a lot of benefit, participants with bad posture did have difficulty solving math problems. Lauren Mason, one of the author of the paper and a recent graduate from FF sais that this empowered position could help with 'stereotype threat', something a lot of students deal with.
The Perfect Technique for Posture: Use the BBC technique: your bottom should be at the back of the chair. This will realign your pelvis correctly. Work your tummy by pulling all muscles and releasing them back halfway. This will tone them and reduce lower back pain. Stand for some time after sitting for every 30 minutes. This helps in blood flow in the body. The study will help in dealing with many aspects of life especially when stress is involved.
