
The Surprising Facts of Sledge Hockey

Para ice hockey is also known as ice – sledge hockey. In the United States of America, it is known as sled hockey. It is a sport that was specifically structured to allow participants with physical disability to play the sport of ice – hockey. The game was invented in the early 1960s in Stockholm, Sweden. It was basically invented at a rehabilitation centre.
Sledge Hockey is a well-known sport in the Winter Paralympic Games. The international governing body for sledge hockey is the International Paralympic Committee. The committee has also officially changed the game’s name to “Para ice hockey” and it in consideration since 30th November, 2016. The Committee changed the name because of the fact that the meaning of sledge differs between languages. The history of sledge hockey recalls that two men from Sweden prepared the sledge for Para ice hockey because they wanted to continue playing hockey despite their physical disability.
