To Install Solar Systems On The Roofs of India, Government Subsidies And Other Incentives Are Being Offered

Solar energy refers to the energy obtained from the sun, which is a form of renewable energy. There is a large amount of solar energy available in India due to its perfect geographic location that makes the country receive tropical sunlight. In addition, the country is witness to more than 300 days with clear skies every year. Therefore, India receives a large amount of solar radiation throughout the year.

Photovoltaic systems on the roof

By installing solar roof systems, people can generate their own energy and use it for different purposes. These panels are eco-friendly and can help reduce the user's carbon footprint. The energy generated can be used to power residential, commercial or industrial buildings. In fact, people can even supply excess electricity to the network and earn some money with it. Therefore, a solar system on the roof is a worthy investment.

However, the problem is the enormous cost of initial installation of a solar system on the roof. According to MNRE, the average cost of a rooftop solar system connected to the grid is Rs 75 per watt. Most of the population of India cannot afford this installation cost. Therefore, to propose a solution to this problem and encourage people to exploit renewable energy, the Government of India has launched a subsidy plan, as well as several other incentives.

Scheme of government subsidies for solar roof systems

Both the Central Government and the State Nodal Agencies (SNA) offer subsidy schemes to people to install photovoltaic systems on roofs. This encourages people to exploit renewables and reduce their electricity bill. Although the initial cost of installing a photovoltaic system on the roof is high, in the long run it is cheap compared to electric generators. Once the photovoltaic systems are installed on the roof, they do not need any.

According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Central Government pays 30% of the reference installation cost for rooftop photovoltaic systems. This subsidy is applicable in the states that are in the general category. However, a subsidy of up to 70% of the reference installation cost is offered in some states that are in the special category: Northern photovoltaic roof cell MNRE. These include states such as Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Lakshadweep.
