Editorials News | Aug-04-2018
CBSE has released an official statement to address the reports of 50% class 12th student scoring extreme high marks after getting a re-evaluation done by the committee. According the the statement released by Central Board of Secondary Education, they conducted a total of 66,876 re-evaluations and out of these applications changes were made only to 4632 cases. This means that marks were increased for only 6.9 percent of the total applications submitted to the committee.
Here is what official clarification of CBSE says "The news report which has appeared in a prominent newspaper today stating that '50 percent of class 12 CBSE students who asked for re-evaluation got more marks does not withhold any scrutiny of any facts. Out of approximately 1.5 crore answer copies (of 28 lakh candidates of class 10 and 12), over 61 lakh copies were from class 12th students". There were also reports of a new topper, Ishita Gupta, who got extremely high increment in scores after re-evaluation. CBSE has claimed them to be baseless and factually incorrect. Gupta was not satisfied with her marks in Political Science, so she applied for re-evaluation process. The applications started from June 15. After re-evaluation, it was found that 17 of her answers were not marked properly and her score increased by 22.
