Any teaching aid that helps keep students engaged is always a good thing. While the interactive lessons are excellent, computer games, it seems, can be a powerful help for learning.

1. The Tami Tower is ideal for budding engineers.

Tami's Tower, developed by the Smithsonian Science Education Center, is a great little game for children of all ages. The idea of the game is to help Tami (a golden lion tamarin) to reach some food by building towers.

It sounds simple enough, but you will need to challenge not only gravity but other malicious animals that try to thwart Tami's efforts.

This game will teach players some basic principles of mathematics, physics and engineering and, frankly, it is incredibly fun.

As you may have guessed, this educational game has been created to help teach your students to design a solution to a problem using the basic principles of engineering design.

2. Prodigy is a battle game based on mathematics.

Prodigy is a mathematics computer game based on the curriculum that is perfect for entertaining children and teaches them basic math skills. This game is perfect for math activities at home and in the classroom.

The game is based on many RPGs as Pokémon to keep players engaged and challenge them to improve their knowledge and math skills. Each player participates in the combat with the characters of the game and must solve a set of mathematical questions to defeat the enemy.

3. Sudoku is a classic.

While sudoku is not technically a computer game, you can find many free applications on most platforms. If you've never played it before, Sudoku is a puzzle based on logic, combinational and number placement.

They have become very popular in the last ten years and are often found together with other classic puzzles such as crosswords in newspapers. The rise of smartphones has allowed the game to become digital and, sometimes, it is presented as an integrated standard game.
