Editorials News | Sep-04-2019
Hosteller or going to become one? We all have some or the other time gone through this phase of our lives when we experience freedom and step out from our parent’s shell. However, with so much fun come many challenges also. Reports suggests that most of the students lose their weight when start living far from their home. A major question then arises is that how one can have a balanced and nutritious diet while living a hostel/PG life?
Making smart choices:
Choosing protein rich foods over those greasy foods is not a good choice. Say no to white flour as it is not healthy for our digestive system.
When one is a hosteller it’s very difficult to maintain a healthy diet and especially breakfast as you are rushing with time. Oats is simple healthy and a cheaper option to go with. They are easy to make, just add boiling water or milk to it and it’s ready to eat.
Oats can also be added with hot dal or any curry and can result in a great alternative to white rice.
No matter how much hard one tries one can’t have an ideal diet while living in a hostel. So, it’s better to opt for things which can be done easily. Working out, joining some outdoor sport, going for a run etc. are the things which will help burn calories and will help you stay active.
Staying hydrated is another vital factor which helps a lot. Drinking a lot of water help to eradicate and flush out toxins from your body. Practice drinking at least 3 liters of water daily and especially in the morning time will help a lot in your hostel life.
Keeping some healthy snacks in handy with you always is another great tip. Some of them could be snacks like peanuts, almonds, peanut butter, fruits, low fat curd, low fat milk etc. These are the items that will help you keep full in the evening and late nights. Eggs are also very cost effective and easy to go with option; in few bugs your stomach is filled completely. And this would also provide a big boost to the daily protein intake. If your owner allows you to keep a kettle in your PG or room, that’s even better. One can use it to boil eggs. So, ultimately the more setting you can do in your hostel/PG, the healthier you would live.
