The game is associated with Ludo, known as Snakes and Ladders, arrised in ancient India, which was earlier known as Mokshapat or Moksha Patamu. It has been not known when and who had invented this game, though it's believed the game was played from early 2nd century BC.
According to some historians, the game of Snake and Ladder was invented by Saint Gyandev in the 13th century AD. Basically, the game was used as a part of moral directive to children. The squares in which ladders start were presenting Goodness, and those housing the head of a snake were supposed to stand for negativity. The snakes outnumbered the ladders in the original Hindu game. The game was transported to England by the colonial rulers in the latter part of the 19th century, with some modifications.
The modified game was named Snakes and Ladders and stripped of its moral and religious aspects and the number of ladders and snakes were equalized. In 1943, the game was introduced in the US under the name Chutes and Ladders. Snakes and Ladder is worldwide board game! In this game the player has to navigate piece from start to finish, avoiding the snakes, and take shortcuts for going up the ladders.
Equipments Required-
• Snakes and Ladders board
• 1 die
• Playing pieces of different colors.
Gameplay-
The players have to move their pieces from left to right, starting from number 1, following the numbers on the board, and then the next row from right to left and repeating the same steps throughout the game. If a player rolls a number 4, then the player would move their pieces at four places.
Snakes
When a player reaches on a top of a snake, their representative piece will slide down to the bottom of the snake. Whereas landing on the bottom of a snake the player will remain in the same spot till the next turn.
Ladders’
When a player lands at the base of a ladder, the player suddenly climbs to the top of the ladder. When the player lands at the top of a ladder he/she will stay there until the next turn. The player does not need to move at bottom of the ladder.
Winning the Game
The first player that reaches the highest Number on the board, 100, wins the game. To win the game a player needs to roll the exact number to get the last space. If the player rolls at higher number than required to land exactly on 100, their piece will not move and will remains there till next chance, when they can roll again.
