What Made “Parasite” Win Oscar?

Parasite became the first non-English movie to win Oscar, creating history. Parasite won 4 Oscars this year and the response from the audience sitting said it all making the historic moment even more special. There were a lot of other movies nominated alongside Parasite but what really did make it win Oscar was what everyone was talking about.
Directed by Bong Joon Ho, it is a comedy thriller, first non-English picture to win best picture at the Oscars. It has been a cultural breakthrough. South Korea has been a nation of movie-goers and has the fifth biggest film industry in the world in terms of box office sale. South Korean K-dramas, movies and K-drama have recently become very popular in youth around the world for their unique story lines and how well they connect with the audience. Same was the case with Parasite.
Parasite depicts the story of a poor family and how they enter the life of a rich family which changes the life of both the families upside down. The plot twists made the audience engrossed till the very end. Parasite has been successful in moving the hearts of people with their unique story line touching the reality of society which is not well depicted in general movies. It showed how powerful a movie can be.
There were a number of audiences who were not really satisfied with how the movie ended and there have been a number of speculations regarding the ending of the movie but people could not stop discussing about it. Parasite winning not one but 4 Oscars surely proves how it impacted the mind of the audience and has surely added its name in the book of history.
During his acceptance speech director Bong told the audience, “we never write to represent our countries, but this is the very first Oscar to South Korea.”
