Why Living In A Sunless Region Can Increase OCD Symptoms

It has been proved that sunless skies play a role in bringing down a person's mood and also decrease their motivation but a recent study suggests that it has an impact on the severity of obsessive compulsive disorder symptoms. Individuals who have OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder in which a person experiences uncontrollable obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. The symptoms can cause discomfort and distress in a person's normal life.

The research was done at Binghamton University, State University of New York or NY. The work proves, along with the reasons, that where a person lives can affect the prominence of their OCD symptoms. The results of the research work are exciting because they have provided a new way to think about the disorder. The study proves that living in  areas that have more sunlight is related to lower rates of OCD. The findings are published in the Journal of Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders. The reason behind this might be the misalignment of the body clock. The individuals in these areas are not able to sleep well earlier in the night and wake up late to compensate for the loss of sleep And this leads to a damaging sleep wake pattern that can reduce exposure to morning light and causing a misadjustment between internal biology and external light-dark cycle. Now, the researchers will work on the treatment methods for these conditions.
